Second Entry

I'm at work today and per the usual no one has given me anything to do. Being an intern for the government is so weird. I guess maybe this is what it's like being an intern at an office job. It's so boring and I'm pretty sure they forget about me most of the time. I can't remember the last time anyone gave me anything to do without me going and asking.

At my last internship, I worked at a residential mental health facility for teens. That place kept me on my toes like no other. Kids were trying to run into traffic and would get into fights all the time with the other kids and staff. It was nuts. Maybe that being my first internship just threw me into the deep end and now everything is so boring. Sometimes it's nice not having to do anything though. I mostly watch new tv shows or tinker around on my phone or computer. I don't know how people who have full time office jobs for 40+ years do it. I'm so bored and feel like my job has no purpose. I get to leave early today to go get fingerprinted for my internship for school though. I don't know why the closest location is 40 minutes away but alas.

I'm excited to move out soon. 4 days! Moving to a big city is going to be a huge change. I get to bring my dog which is exciting. Even though I was gone for my undergrad for 4 years, I'm nervous to take the next step and be without my mom. My undergrad was 3 hours away, and my grad school is only an hour away so I don't know why I'm so nervous. At my undergrad, we were required to live in the dorms on campus all 4 years, so I haven't had experience truly living alone yet. Now I'll have my own apartment and I'll have to commute to school which is going to be crazy. It's a 40 minute commute via the train and subway. I could drive and have it be only a 20 minute commute, but the parking is $450 a SEMESTER. That is just absurd.

*Body image talk ahead, I just wanted to give a warning here*

I still need to finish packing. My mom is kind of up my ass about it but I'll get it done. I really only need to pack up my clothes and toiletries. There's probably more I'm forgetting but I'll figure it out. I'm excited to finally be able to cook for myself and buy groceries that I want. My mom mostly buys snacks, junk food, and frozen food, which isn't great for my health and I can feel it. It's always been like this. I think that's what lead to my BED in high school. We never had real food in the house so I'd just overload on snacks to get full. I really want to change those habits that still linger.

I think that's all I have for today, maybe I'll update later in the day because its only 10am. We shall see. Bye for now!

First Entry

My first post! I don't quite know how this process will go. I'll start off with this: I in no way intend for this to be a sophisticated blog. I type like how I speak in real life. Maybe that will keep it more real or maybe it will deter people. I'm not sure! I aim to post once a day. Not totally sure how that will go. There's not much of a theme for my daily posts. Just some word vomit for how I'm feeling that day.

I really want this blog to encapsulate what being in your twenties is like, hence why it will likely be all over the place. To give some background on my life that will give some context for my future posts, I'll lay it out in this initial post. I am currently 22 years old. I'm a woman, which I think has become quite obvious at this point. I live in good ol' suburbia in the U.S. In about a week I am moving to a big city. I just graduated with my bachelors degree in psychology with minors in sociology and women's studies. In late August I am starting a graduate program for social work. I have one dog, which I may post pictures of in the future. He is a shih tzu maltese mix.

I have a lot of interests and hobbies that I have gained over my lifetime. I played soccer for about 15 years but quit before going to college. I am very crafty, I like to sew and crochet and occasionally do a beaded craft. I love to bake! I may make a tab for recipes in the future. I'm still trying to figure out the layout of this whole thing. I have absolutely not clue how to get my "about me" section on only the home page.

I will likely talk politics and human rights on this page, because its a huge part of who I am and my field. I was the co-president of the feminist club at my college and we did a ton of cool initiatives on campus like brining free menstrual cups and discs to campus. The order system was anonymous, it was something I was really proud of for creating.

I think this may be all for today. I need to figure out how to make my page a little better (layout wise). See you all tomorrow!
